IF
SKELLY HAS HIS WAY, YOUR STUDENTS WILL BE TELLING
YOU TO SIT UP STRAIGHT |
The ABC programme was designed in the response to the
"growing problem" of Low Back Pain.
Statistically 80% of the population will suffer with
disabling acute low back pain, this may resolve within
6 weeks but in 60% will reoccur within a year and in
up to 15 % will become permanent. Research by
BackCare alarmingly found 50 % of children would experience
low back pain by the age of 14.Poor lifestyle practices
and postures in childhood can lead to spinal problems
in adults.
In response to these statistics, the ABC team developed
an exciting health education initiative. The Airedale
Backcare for Children (ABC) programme addresses this
urgent health need by offering a dynamic, interactive
and evidence based “ workshop” presentation.
This will then equip and empower a child to change their
‘lifestyle’ thus preventing potential low
back pain throughout life.
The aims of the ABC programme are:
- 1. To provide school children with information
and skills required to facilitate adoption of positive
lifestyle behavior’s that can reduce the risk
of developing an unhealthy spine.
- To facilitate a back friendly
school environment.
We will be running courses this Summer
to pass on our experiences and to enable this valuable
programme
to be continued nationwide. For details please contact
